Mizuno has recently launched a new line of integrated hybrid golf clubs called the MX-100. I'm a huge fan of Mizuno and think they make some of the highest quality equipment in the game.
The new MX-100 irons feature Y-tune technology and Mizuno is promoting them as the most forgiving irons they have ever made. The MX-100 have a cutting edge hybrid design and can be custom fit to your specifications.
Mizuno's Y-Tune technology extends and expands the sweet spot of the clubface out towards the toe to deliver the most forgiveness on mis-hits. This Y-Tune technology is carried throughout the set from the easy to launch, maximum distance #4 and #5 hybrids down to the set matching SW.
The Mizuno MX-100 hybrid golf clubs can be purchased from local and online retailers for around $650.
As I've stated before, I can not hit a 3 or 4 iron to save my life. So, I went out and bought a hybrid 3 &4 and have never looked back. Well, that is until I noticed a major problem with my club selection from a specific distance.
One thing I experienced right from the start was the increased distance that comes along with hybrid golf clubs. I hit my hybrid 3 and hybrid 4 about 10 -15 yards farther than the traditional 3 & 4.
So, this causes a pretty big gap in my club selection. I hit my hybrid 4 about 190. I hit my regular 5 about 175. Oh no, there's a 15 yard gap in my clubs???? These are the two options that I came up with to solve the problem.
Buy a club to fill the gap. In my case, I just needed to buy a hybrid 5 to cancel out my 175-190 yard gap. This means that I carry a hybrid 5 for the 175-190 and a regular 5 for the 175 and below.
Buy a full hybrid and game improving set. Callaway, Cleveland, Adams and all the other major manufacturers are producing full sets now that have hybrid long irons and game improving short irons. These clubs are manufactured to eliminate the distance gap and give you a more normal distance progression.
It all really depends on how much you want to spend and if you want that consistent progressive feel between all of your clubs. Personally, I just went out and bought the hubrid 5.
I bought my hybrid golf clubs about two years ago and for the first year was really pleased with the results. I was able to replace my problematic 3 & 4 irons with the hybrid clubs and immediately shaved 3-5 strokes per round. Then sometime last year, I was watching a tournament on TV and saw somebody using their's to chip with around the green. WOW, I didn't even think about using them around the green.
Considering I normally lose 1-3 strokes due to terrible chips, I thought I'd give it a shot. To my surprise, it worked. The hybrids were very easy and accurate to chip with. The short game usually kills me, but not anymore since I start chipping with hybrid golf clubs.
I think it has a lot to do with the weight and design of the club. They are just perfectly made to cleanly get through the rough and provide the exact amount of weight to control shot distance.
Not only do they help with distance control, but the consistency is awesome. In the past with conventional clubs, I would chunk and blade chips all the time. One time I would chunk it, next time I would blade it because I over compensated. Now with the hybrids, I have a consistent chipping stroke.
Overall, my hybrids have truly been a game saver to me. In the 2 years I have been playing them, I have consistently cut 4 strokes off my round. You can as well!
I started playing golf at the age of 12, so that would be 21 years ago. When I was younger, I loved the long game. Drivers, 3 woods, 3 irons no problem. Bring it on. But, as I have grown older and have focused more time on the things of life instead of golf I find myself dreading those shots I once loved to hit. That is, until I put some hybrid golf clubs in my bag.
I played competitive golf in high school and then for recreation after that. Right up until I got married 9 years ago, I would go out several times per week and would always have time to hit the range. But, over the past 9 years my time for golf has been very limited.
I only have a few hours a month to go play and I don't want to spend that time swinging on the range. I want to be out there playing. It's really a catch 22. You want to play well, but you don't have time to put yourself in a place to play well.
That's where I found a place for hybrid golf clubs in my bag. About 2 years ago, I got fed up with losing 3-5 strokes around because my long iron game just went in the tank. I went online and found a deal on 2 Callaway Heavenwoods. Think I paid about $120 for the 3H & 4H.
I've played around 40 rounds since then and I can honestly say that they knock off 3-5 strokes a round. Since putting them in my bag, I have found that excitement again of hitting those long approach shots.
My hybrid clubs are probably the most forgiving and consistent clubs I have ever hit. If you are in the same boat I was in, consider some hybrid clubs to help improve your game and make the most out of your time on the links.
